I study the political economy of foreign aid as well as electoral behavior and accountability in aid recipient countries. My research sheds light on the causes of low levels of electoral accountability found in many developing countries and demonstrates how external factors, such as foreign aid, can strengthen them. It overlaps with international relations and comparative politics. Regionally, my research focuses on Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.
